Guerlain Rouge G Garçonne Lipstick Review and Swatches

Friday, April 17, 2015

Lo and behold, possibly my most expensive lipstick in my collection. I had heard so much about the Rouge G formula that I knew that one day I'd end up trying out the formula. I'm always on the lookout for the perfect lipstick, is this the one?

Last Black Friday they had some great deals on a Spanish beauty site called Primor.eu and the high end brands they stock were particularly reduced in price. I didn't think twice about it: I was going to try out the Rouge G formula for once and for all!

I had no idea which colour to go for and the webpage didn't have pictures or swatches. I decided I wanted to go for a red, as they're Rouge G! I thought it was the obvious thing to do!

Packaging

I've never seen a lipstick case like this one, it's a large shiny silver case with a button with the letter G and the name Guerlain engraved on the lid, as if it were a  piece of jewellery. When you take off the lid it automatically opens and shows a double mirror which is practical for applying lipstick on the go.

I'm in two minds about the packaging: it definitely feels luxurious but it's crazily heavy and sometimes it's annoying that the mirror always pops open when you take the cap off. A follower once pointed out that the packaging reminded her of a sarcophagus and I always remember her words when I look at it.

Formula and Finish

This is one of the creamiest lipsticks I have ever tried. It glides over the lips and the first time I tried it I was quite worried that it would bleed as it seemed like the sort that would be likely to do so.

The finish is really glossy and makes your lips look full and like vinyl. If you're afraid of wearing red lipsticks this one will be way too out-there for you. The finish is so pigmented and shiny that it's very bold.

I'm happy to report that the lipstick is very comfortable on the lips even feels moisturizing. It's also long wearing which is great when dealing with bright colours.
It does transfer a lot so you'll leave red lipstick marks wherever you touch. I'm also happy to report that it doesn't slip once the lipstick has set on the lips, which I was very afraid it would do.

Colour

I chose Garçonne because it was described as a neutral red, and I have to say that it's the true red lipstick in my collection.
It's definitely a statement colour and because the finish is so glossy you'll definitely get noticed with this rouge.

Overall

Well, I was very worried that this lipstick would be too slippery, but I have to say that it's one of the most luxurious formulas I've tried. It's creamy and moisturizing and lasts a long time on the lips.
This is definitely a very bold colour with a very glossy finish and red lipstick lovers will surely find their perfect shade of red in the Rouge G line.

As for its price tag, it's crazily expensive (£32.50) but at least the formula is impressive and will make your lips look amazing, no matter the condition they're in. If you're very picky about lipstick formulas, I urge you to look for your shade of red in the Rouge G line.

Would you be willing to spend so much on a lipstick?
